Not Ready to
Quit
Your
concerns are real
Maybe the idea of quitting is scary. Or perhaps you know about
the dangers, but aren't ready to quit. Many smokers have mixed
feelings about smoking. This is normal. They want to quit, but
they would also like to go on smoking.
Perhaps you tried to quit smoking and
know it can be hard. It can be difficult because nicotine is a
very addictive drug.
But half of all smokers have quit! Many
people quit temporarily, before being able to quit for good. Each
time you try to quit, you learn about what helps you get through
the day.
Know tobacco
Some tobacco companies are marketing tobacco products they claim
are safer. The truth is, there is no safe tobacco product. All
tobacco products are harmful. It is the one product that when
used as directed, kills.
Think about trying
Maybe you are already experiencing some smoking-related symptoms,
such as cough or frequent colds. If you have a family history
of heart disease or cancer you may be especially concerned about
smoking.
Today, many people find that being a
smoker is a burden and a hassle. Think about trying to quit.
Quitting smoking is one of the most important
things that you will ever do:
-
You will live longer and live better.
-
Quitting will lower your chance of having a heart attack, stroke or cancer.
-
The people you live with, especially your children, will be healthier.
-
You will have extra money to spend on things other than cigarettes.
