Got A Minute? Give It To Your Kid is a social marketing campaign prepared for state and local tobacco use prevention and control programs by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- The Got A Minute? Campaign is designed to help less-involved parents become more involved with their preteens, a behavior that appears to act as a protective factor against the lure of tobacco use and other types of substance abuse.
The Partnership For A Tobacco-Free Maine chose to implement the Got A Minute? campaign because it is based on:
- Research done by a panel of experts analyzing the connections between parenting styles and youth outcomes
- Parent focus groups that explored attitudes, benefits and barriers around positive parenting practices
The Got A Minute? campaign provides presentation materials for community organizations, print and radio ads and parent brochures. PTM’s media contractor will be handling the radio ads and the 31 Healthy Maine Partnership community/school local programs will implement the campaign at the local level.
- The brochure offers 10 ways for parents to stay involved with their adolescents. No single idea is going to be right for every family. That's why the brochure offers several ideas. Brochures can be downloaded, requested from an HMP local program or from PTM.
